Community Education

What it is?

The Community education program is run through the Hood River County School District. The Community Education program serves the entire Columbia Gorge region in a number of different ways, utilizing local school facilities to their maximum potential.

Mission Statement

Community Education has been operating since 1975, intending to provide a variety of learning opportunities to persons of all ages, races, and income levels. According to the program mission statement, Community Education stands for:

  1. Learning as a lifelong process;
  2. Equal rights to use school buildings and facilities;
  3. Cooperation and coordination amongst social service agencies;
  4. Citizen involvement and decision making.

How Community Education Works

Community Education collaborates with a variety of public and private entities to bring classes, activities, and special events including: college credit classes, adult education and GED services, business and industry training, business partnerships, health programs, fine arts, crafts and hobbies, cultural and entertainment events, sports and recreation, youth programs, child care, senior citizen tours and personal enrichment opportunities.

Hood River School District's Community Education program has been recognized and commended as one of the finest examples of Community Education in the nation.
